The Bulls spent an evening in the Waltham Abbey TESCO's foyer, Carol Singing to raise funds for subsidizing future scouting activities. Altogether they raised a fabulous £307.37
Our scouts challenge was making a Pizza from scratch. They were given written instructions, the ingredients and guidance where needed, and the results are in the photographs. Alan our Chairman brought along his Pizza Oven, which was great as the Pizza's didn't take long to cook.
Our Bulls visited Waltham Abbey Church. We were allowed to enter the bell tower and see them in action. Unfortunately as it was a dark winter evening, we were not allowed to venture out onto the viewing platform. Previous visits have been in the summer months, whereby the platform has allowed us to see beyond the boundaries of "the Abbey". All fifteen who attended had the chance to ring the bells, after learning more about their history and how to operate them.
The Bulls entered a team into the District Swimming Gala that was held at Ongar. The five girls, the only all female team entered out of the nine teams, came overall in fourth place. As you can see by the photo, two girls won individual awards in their finals. Well done everyone.
Our Scout Troop took part in a water confidence activity, where they can safely jump in and play in a local river. This activity is run by Harlow Outdoors, with supervision from qualified instructors. Our youngsters thoroughly enjoy the activity, whilst boosting their confidence in natural water, where they simply cannot away from scouting.
In a way of a "thank you" to our local Fire Station, who invited us to visit their base, try on their safety gear, sit in a fire engine, learn about what it takes to be a Fire Fighter and a hands-on experience using the water hose. Our Scouts made cakes at home and setup a stall at the Fire Station's Open Day, selling our cakes and hot drinks, to raise funds for the Fire Station's chosen charity.
One of our favorite cooking activities is "Ready steady Cook". Based on the TV show, our scouts are given a selection of foods, they chose three items, and make a meal from it. We supply the essentials and they do the rest. They have the option of cooking indoors or out and 60 mins to complete the challenge. As you can see, the results would supplement any five star restaurant menu.
Each team picked a model from their team, the rest had to decorate the model in a hat, glasses, dress, handbag, gloves, shoes or boots, all out of newspaper and sellotape. Always a good activity to keep the youngsters busy on a cold rainy evening.
The troop supplied the burger's and buns .... and our scouts did the rest. Scouts were allowed to bring in anything from home to garnish their burger, but had to cook and assemble at the scout hut.
This is an annual event run by our Royal Forest District Scouters. The hike is around six miles, along bridle paths and across muddy fields over night. There are check points along the route with various challenging tasks to conquer. The Bulls won this event for the second year in a row, keeping hold of the trophy until another scout troop wins. Each base completed wins the team points which are then added together.
